Ichigo Kurosaki
Bleach's protagonist — a Substitute Soul Reaper whose power has been rebuilt and escalated through Hollow, Quincy, and Soul Reaper abilities across the series.
Ichigo Kurosaki is the central protagonist of Bleach, a teenager who gains Soul Reaper powers after a chance encounter with Rukia Kuchiki and spends the series balancing — and periodically losing control of — an unusual mix of Soul Reaper, Hollow, and (later revealed) Quincy heritage.
Powers
Ichigo's power set has been rebuilt multiple times across the series, each version stronger and more dangerous to control than the last. His base Bankai, his partial Hollowfication, and his fused Getsuga-Cero techniques all represent different stages of that escalation. The Thousand-Year Blood War arc pushes this further, forcing him into new Bankai forms as previous ceilings prove insufficient against Yhwach.
Role in the story
For most of Bleach, Ichigo is the character the plot is built around — his fights are the climaxes, his power-ups are the escalations. The final arc has started complicating that formula, putting other characters in position to make the decisive moves in fights that would once have been resolved by Ichigo alone.
