Toshiro Hitsugaya

Toshiro Hitsugaya is the captain of Soul Society's 10th Division and, for most of Bleach's run, the youngest person to ever hold a captain's rank — a distinction that's shaped both how other characters treat him and how his own arc has been built around proving himself despite his age.

Role in the story

Hitsugaya's ice-type Zanpakuto, Hyorinmaru, has made him one of the series' most visually and tactically distinctive fighters, and his combination of tactical discipline with a genuinely youthful temperament has made him a consistent fan favorite across Bleach's various arcs. Unlike some of the series' more explosively powerful characters, Hitsugaya's growth has often been framed around control and maturity as much as raw strength.

The Complete Bankai reveal

That growth arc reached a significant new stage in the Thousand-Year Blood War anime adaptation, with the introduction of an adult-form "Complete Bankai" for Hitsugaya — a physically mature version of the character unlocked alongside a more fully realized command of Hyorinmaru's power. The reveal was significant enough to come with its own casting news: voice actor Yuki Kaji, known for roles including Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan and Shoto Todoroki in My Hero Academia, was announced as the voice of this adult form, while Romi Park continues voicing Hitsugaya's standard, younger appearance.

Why the dual casting matters

Splitting the role between two performers for a single character's different forms is a notable production choice, and it underscores how significant the Complete Bankai transformation is meant to be within the story — not just a power-up, but a shift substantial enough that the production side chose to represent it with an entirely different voice, alongside Hitsugaya's usual performer continuing to anchor the character the rest of the time.
