Dandadan · Character Guide

Momo Ayase

One of Dandadan's two leads, a high schooler with latent psychic abilities who, alongside Okarun, ends up on the front lines of the series' escalating supernatural and alien conflicts.

Momo Ayase is one of the two central protagonists of Dandadan, a high schooler whose latent psychic abilities get pulled into increasingly dangerous territory as the series escalates from a ghost-versus-alien premise into a much larger ongoing conflict.

Role in the story

Momo's arc runs alongside Ken "Okarun" Takakura's, the two of them forming the core partnership the series is built around. Where Okarun's abilities and story threads lean toward the alien/UFO side of Dandadan's premise, Momo's powers are tied to the psychic/esper side, and the story has consistently used the contrast between the two to drive both its comedy and its combat sequences.

The Dragon Knights conflict

As Dandadan's story has moved into its ongoing arc against the antagonist faction known as the Dragon Knights, Momo has remained one of the frontline fighters directly engaging them, alongside Okarun and a growing cast of allies including Rokuro "Kinta" Sakata. Chapter 245 in particular shows her and Okarun already committed to battle against the Dragon Knights by the time reinforcements arrive, underscoring how central she's become to the series' current large-scale confrontations.

Why she matters to the series

Momo's combination of psychic ability and the show's trademark blend of horror, comedy, and heart has made her one of the anchors of Dandadan's tonal identity — a series that moves fluidly between slapstick and genuine stakes largely because its two leads, Momo included, are written to take both registers seriously. As the story's conflicts scale up further, her role as one of the few characters capable of matching the Dragon Knights in a fight makes her one of the most consequential figures heading into whatever the arc's resolution turns out to be.
