Anya Forger

Anya Forger is the adopted daughter at the heart of Spy x Family's premise — a young girl secretly capable of reading minds, adopted by spy Loid Forger as part of his cover for Operation Strix without either parent initially knowing the full truth about the other.
Role in the story
Anya's telepathy is both the series' primary comedic engine and one of its most important plot mechanisms. She's fully aware that her "father" is a spy and her "mother" is an assassin, information she keeps hidden from both of them while navigating school life at Eden Academy — the same institution where Donovan Desmond's son, Damian, is enrolled, tying her directly into the mission her family was built around.
A past tied to experimentation
Beyond her role in the Forger household, Anya's own origins carry unresolved weight. She was a test subject before the story began, and moments where she's exposed to certain triggers — including, in a pivotal confrontation with Donovan Desmond, close proximity to his thoughts — have been shown to surface traumatic memories from that past. That reaction has become a meaningful clue connecting her history to the story's larger mysteries, even though the full picture of what was done to her, and by whom, hasn't been fully revealed.
The Donovan Desmond connection
A direct encounter between Anya and Donovan later in the story allowed her to read his mind closely enough to confirm he's human and doesn't possess telepathic powers himself — complicating a theory that had circulated for a long stretch of the series.
